Endings & Beginnings

As February comes to a close, I can just barely feel spring in the air. Although I am beyond ready to put my parka back into storage I may have to hang on to it for a few more weeks because in the grand tradition of living in the Midwest, it will most likely remain bitterly cold until at least the end of March.

Today's outfit is a step towards spring in that I decided to wear tights rather than a snowsuit on my way to class. Instead of wearing a belt with this otherwise plain dress, I decided to dress it down a bit by tying a flannel shirt around my waist. I honestly believe a nice (well-worn) flannel is a wardrobe essential. They are one of the most versatile pieces I own (I may or may not have 7 in my closet).  You can wear a flannel with just about everything or hardly anything at all. Whether you button it all the way up and wear it with jeans and some converse or wear it as a key layering piece, it always looks effortlessly chic.

February Favorites

Hey Everyone! As February comes to a close (finally!) I thought I would share some of my favorites of the month! The weather has been rather bipolar this month so not a lot of fashion favorites because my main focus has been on staying warm which doesn't always translate well into fashion!

I've been loving a variety of music this month but these are a few of my absolute favorites that have been on constant repeat (Also checkout The Weekend remix of Drunk in Love it is incredible!).

My skin has been so dry lately so I have been doing all I can to keep it as hydrated as possible. As if the scent of this CND almond lotion didn't already sell me on the product, it is incredibly hydrating and moisturizing! Vaseline is also a classic favorite of mine and I've been reapplying it to my lips non stop! But in an effort to add a summer-y glow to my face I have been loving this Benefit highlighter. It comes in a stick form so it's super easy to use and gives me the perfect sun-kissed look!

The snow has melted just enough so I can break my favorite cut out booties out of storage! This pair, from Steve Madden, is adorable and goes with just about any outfit (they are also incredibly comfortable!).

Lastly I have some random favorites;

This Boom Chicka Pop popcorn is absolutely delicious and guilt free (thank God) because I am addicted to this stuff! The Magic Bullet has also been one of my best friends this month! I'm currently on day 8 of my 40 day vegan cleanse and my friend Meg (colorfulcollegegirl.blogspot.com ) and I have been making tasty green shakes every night after our workout (more updates on the cleanse to come!).

I listened to a song the other day that reminded me of one of my favorite childhood movies, Cheaper by the Dozen, so I pulled it out and decided to watch it, still as funny as ever! Oh one last thing, I forgot to insert an image but I finished watching 90210 on Netflix this month and I recommend it to any of my fellow Gossip Girl fans out there, it;s surprisingly a really great show (I actually wish there were a few more seasons).

Windy(ish) City

 When it comes to wind, good hair days are far and few between, especially with thick and long hair like my own. On days like these hats are my very best friend. Whether it be a baseball cap or a beanie, hats have a way of making your outfit seem effortless. Today I went with a plain grey beanie that I actually picked up in the men's section at Tarjay, or Target as some may call it, ehh tomato tah-mato. I decided to pair my beanie with a neutral and comfortable outfit that I completed with my favorite pair of cut-out booties. Stay stylish lovelies!

Transitions

To say it has been a brutal winter is an understatement. But as the weather begins to warm up and the snow begins to melt, my rain boots are my most practical choice of footwear for the transition of winter to spring. In hopes that the temperature will continue to rise I've ditched my parka and have opted for more spring appropriate coats like a utility jacket with leather accents, a sleek rain coat or in this case a vegan leather jacket, which is really just a retailers way of saying faux. I hope everyone's temperatures continue to rise and have a good rest of your day!
