{Octoberfest-ivities}

How lucky are we to live in a world where Octobers exist...

This weekend my cousin and his lovely fiance tied the knot during a beautiful ceremony at my uncle's picturesque log cabin home.

Fortunately for me, weddings provide not only the perfect excuse to see distant relatives and family friends, but it also gives me the opportunity to shake up my college uniform of leggings and sweatshirts and actually get dressed up for a change of pace.

Rompers are the perfect piece when it comes to looking chic but also feeling comfortable. Typically, rompers are associated with the spring and summer months but it can also work as the perfect transitional piece if paired with tights and ankle booties.

I love this romper especially for the oversized floral print and the glamorous sleeves and am impatiently waiting for a chance to wear it again!

Also, here is a little list of music I've been loving lately:

  • She Knows- J. Cole
  • Sober- Childish Gambino
  • The Palisades- Childish Gambino (Basically all of his Kauai album)

{Meanwhile In Lollaland...}

Long time no post...

This summer has absolutely flown by. I've spent majority of it working and whatever free time I've had, I spent with friends and family. But I'll be back at school in less than a couple weeks so hopefully I'll be able to update this blog more often! (Also, I cut all of my hair off and I couldn't be happier!)

Just over two weeks ago I headed to the beautiful city of Chicago to attend my favorite event of the year, Lollapalooza. This is the second year I've attended this music festival and it is far from being my last time!

Whilst the most important aspect of the festival is obviously the music, the street style (and street food) is amazing as well. People watching between sets quickly became one of our favorite past-times!

We saw some pretty incredible artists and I'm already having a hard time waiting for next year, but scrolling through the countless pictures and videos that were taken will have to suffice for now and I wanted to share some on this blog!

My Lollapalooza Favorites:

  1. Play With Fire- Vance Joy
  2. Houdini- Foster the People
  3. Waste- Foster the People
  4. Best Friend- Foster the People
  5. Rollup (Baauer remix)- Flosstradamus
  6. Mosh Pit- Flosstradamus
  7. Bonfire- Childish Gambino
  8. Fire Fly- Childish Gambino
  9. Heartbeat- Childish Gambino
  10. Freaks and Geeks- Childish Gambino
  11. Roses- OutKast
  12. So Fresh, So Clean- Outkast
  13. Ms. Jackson- Outkast
  14. ATLiens- OutKast

  17. M.O.N.E.Y- The 1975
  18. Arabella- Arctic Monkeys

  20. Hollywood- RAC

{Good Vibes}

With finals coming up, this blog has fallen pretty low on the priority list but boy am I happy to be back. With only one week left of my freshman year of college, my stress level is at an all time high but I wanted to take a well-deserved break from studying to create this post!

Today I am wearing one of my favorite items in my wardrobe, a simple black romper. While my romper collection has grown over the past year the one I'm wearing today continues to be my favorite! I love how rompers are a top and shorts all-in-one because while it can be dressed up with heels and a jacket it can also be worn as a bathing suit cover up at the beach! Today I decided to go with a more bohemian feel pairing my romper, with some embellished gladiator sandals and a floppy hat. I also decided to wear this terracotta colored bralette I recently picked up from Free People. I love how the lace detailing makes the outfit look a little more feminine and delicate.

Because of how busy I've been, I wasn't able to post my April Favorites but here are a few of my current song favorites. Also be sure to check out my Summer '14 playlist on Spotify!
  • Riptide- Vance Joy
  • Here Comes the Night Time- Arcade Fire
  • Heart's On Fire- Passenger
  • XXX 88- MØ, Diplo
  • Hollywood- RAC feat. Penguin
  • Agora- Bear Hands
  • BTSTU (Edit)- Jai Paul

Salut Printemps!

Translation: Hello Spring!

Since today's outfit was inspired by le francais, I thought that the title of this post deserved some french influence! When I think of the fashion capital the world only one word come to mind, Paris! French style is characterized as being chic, effortless, and most of all, timeless. The French focus on flattering the human form rather than dressing for the trends, thus they create the trends!

One of the most iconic aspects of french fashion is Breton stripes. Breton stripes are when black/navy stripes contrast against a white, knitted fabric. The style is inspired by french sailors, and was first introduced into women's fashion by Coco Chanel. The Breton stripes began the breakaway from restricted fashion of the times into casual fashion.

Alright, alright enough of the history lesson, here is more about the outfit; The Breton stripe t-shirt dress I am wearing is a new addition to my wardrobe and I am obsessed to say the least (I have started dreaming about all the ways I can wear it!) Color is something I rarely incorporate into my wardrobe but I was feeling rather spring-y today so I decided to tie this bright fuchsia cardigan around my waist, giving a little bit of shape to this rather shapeless dress! Finally, I had to add some American style to my outfit so I threw on my go-to Chuck Taylors!

PJ's Everyday

As much as I love clothes and all things fashion, there is a special place in my heart (or closet rather) for comfy clothes. On the days when I want to be comfortable but not lose my sense of style, I like to wear soft, moveable pieces. In this outfit I am wearing my new favorite t-shirt. I recently picked up this cotton crop top at Topshop. Although the shirt is very basic it has nice cuffed detailing on the sleeves as well as a pocket on the front.

I paired the boxy crop top with my go-to shorts! I got these black and white patterned shorts a little over a year ago and I wear them every chance I get! A major trend for spring this year is Pajamas for the daytime and I feel that these shorts are a great way to try out this trend.

Metamorphosis

Spring is finally in full swing here in the midwest and I couldn't be more excited for thin layers and bare legs. As the weather changes, so does my style. In the winter I am drawn to darker clothes (all black everything) and textures like suede and leather, but as the weather gets warmer, I can't help but reach for items with a pop of color or printed pieces. I also ditch the leather and suede for crochet and linen.

Another inspiration for my spring/summer style is music festivals! This past weekend was week one of Coachella, and the only thing that makes up for the fact that I was not there, is all the festival style inspiration on Instagram and Tumblr (as well as the live footage on YouTube).

Here's a list of some Instagram users that I follow who have been donning some awesome festival looks:

@urbanoutfitters

@shannonbarkerr
@caitbarkerr

In today's post I am wearing one of my favorite trends this season; kimonos! The one I am wearing today is covered in an incredibly realistic butterfly pattern (hence the title of this post)! I love kimonos because they not only look effortless with everything from denim shorts to rompers, but they also add an unexpected pop of color to a neutral outfit. Because the kimono is the focal point of my outfit, I decided to keep the rest of the outfit pretty simple with a white tank top and lace-trimmed shorts.

Oxford Comma

 There is nothing quite as versatile as the white Oxford shirt. Up until recently I did not own this closet staple, but over spring break I finally picked one up from the Gap and ever since I bought it I have been thinking of all the ways I can wear it! In this post I went with a simple and casual look to show that an Oxford shirt doesn't always have to be worn in a professional setting. These distressed jeans are one of my favorites because they are unbelievably comfortable and the distressing adds an edgy element to the outfit. I also threw on some simple gold bangles and a mixed metal watch.

Wearing silver and gold together is considered somewhat of a fashion faux pas, but by wearing one piece that combines both metals, it's easy to layer with more all-gold or all-silver pieces.

The options that come with a white oxford are endless. Whether you wear it as a bathing suit cover-up or with a pair of tailored trousers it looks effortlessly stylish. In short, this is not the last time you will be seeing this timeless shirt on my blog!

March Favorites

In all honesty I feel like March has been the longest month of my life. School has kept me extremely busy which for me, unfortunately means I have had little time to make frequent posts. I also just got back from spring break and although I didn't go to a nice, sandy beach somewhere, I had so much fun visiting my friends at their schools! Fortunately, my favorite month starts tomorrow and I am so excited to share some new posts.

Without further ado here are my monthly favorites;

I feel like I'm constantly listening to music, whether I'm walking to class or making a blog post I always have my headphones in my ears (I sort of feel incomplete without them!) This month I listened to a few new (to me) albums and songs that I fell in love with and wanted to share! I had always known of Chance the Rapper but this month I decided to download his mix tape, Acid Rap, and it was just about all I listened to at the beginning of the month. Some of my favorite tracks are Favorite Song and Chain Smoker. I also have enjoyed listening to quite a few throwbacks this month specifically off the spring break playlist I made last year.
Here are some more songs I've been loving:

  • I Will Fall (Nashville cast)
  • Young Girls (Bruno Mars)
  • Knee Socks (Arctic Monkeys)
  • One For the Road (Arctic Monkeys)
  • Holding On to You (Twenty One Pilots)
  • Mrs. Robinson (Simon and Garfunkel)
  • Dissolve Me (Alt-J)
  • Bloodflood (Alt-J)
  • Fall In Love (Phantogram)
  • Jesus Christ (Brand New)
  • Just a Girl (No Doubt)
  • Miami (Will Smith)
  • Lions in Cages (Wolf Gang)
  • Kiss Me (Sixpence None the Richer)
Two Makeup products I have been loving this month are Maybelline's Line Stiletto and Benefit's Sun Beam. Line Stiletto has been my favorite liquid liner for quite some time now and it helps me create the perfect winged line. It's also available at most drug stores so it's super affordable. Sun Beam highlighter from benefit has helped me add a little extra glow to my makeup routine, giving the effect of a nice beach-y tan without actually having gone to the beach.

I have been obsessed, to say the least, with two television shows this month. The first of these is Lost. I am a little late to hop on the Lost bandwagon but better late than never I guess! I have been binge watching Lost on Netflix like it's my job (I may or may not have watched the first half of the second season in one day). I never pegged myself to like this type of sci-fi show but it has a little something for everyone from romance to mystery. I would suggest this show to anyone but be warned that it will most likely take over your life. The second show I have been loving this month is Nashville. This is another show I never would have predicted myself liking. I am not the biggest fan of country music, which for those of you who don't know is what the show revolves around. But I quickly became addicted, not only is the acting amazing but the music is excellent as well.

My food favorite this month has been Brookside's Dark Chocolate Pomegranate. These are just like candy, but are quite a bit more natural and healthy. I recently discovered you can buy snack sized bags at Costco at only 100 calories a pack. If you are a fan of dark chocolate I would definitely recommend checking these out.

Lastly, this month I have been wearing the heck out of my low top Converse. I have a few pairs of these but I often find myself reaching for my light gray ones or my off-white pair. They go with just about every casual outfit, are extremely comfortable, and look better with age!

A New Ball Game

I was having blog withdraws because I haven't posted in almost a week but I am so happy to be back! This week has been so hectic with midterms and spring break coming up but I finally had time to make a post before getting back to studying.

It was super warm today and I have been dying to wear this 'envelope' skort. That's right, SKORT! If you're like me, I thought that we left skorts behind in the third grade but they are making a major comeback. Although I believe it was Zara that first made this asymmetrical style skort I have seen more affordable options popping up everywhere from Nasty Gal to Forever 21. I actually purchased mine from Pac Sun online, but I also have a similar one in black that I got on sale at Aritzia (one of my absolute favorite stores). I have also seen them in a variety of prints and patterns like plaid or floral. But if you haven't picked up on this already I tend to stick to a neutral color scheme.

I wanted to add something to make the look very casual so I decided on a simple tee shirt with rolled sleeves and tied a chambray shirt around my waist to break up the light gray and white. I also wore my favorite pair of worn-in Converse to complete the casual vibe.

Out and About

Sundays tend to be my least favorite day of the week because I find myself laying around my dorm pretending to do things I need to finish for Monday, but in an effort to enjoy the sunshine today I decided to get out of my dorm and run some errands around town.

After 11:30 mass I went to Starbucks, located ever so conveniently down the street, and ordered my favorite drink, a grande chai tea latte with soy milk (if you have never tried this, it will change your life). After sitting down and enjoying my latte I popped into a few of the boutiques uptown and went to CVS to get some magazines.

I paired this structured peplum top with a classically cut jean, but the army green color and slight distressing on the legs takes the look from a softer preppy look to something that is a little more edgy. I tied the look together with some brown booties, giving me a little added height.

The university I go to is characterized by its preppy style, deemed J.Crew U by people who are aware of its reputation. Although I have some classic elements of my style, I would definitely not describe my self as a prepster but today's outfit lets a little prep shine through.
