March Favorites

In all honesty I feel like March has been the longest month of my life. School has kept me extremely busy which for me, unfortunately means I have had little time to make frequent posts. I also just got back from spring break and although I didn't go to a nice, sandy beach somewhere, I had so much fun visiting my friends at their schools! Fortunately, my favorite month starts tomorrow and I am so excited to share some new posts.

Without further ado here are my monthly favorites;

I feel like I'm constantly listening to music, whether I'm walking to class or making a blog post I always have my headphones in my ears (I sort of feel incomplete without them!) This month I listened to a few new (to me) albums and songs that I fell in love with and wanted to share! I had always known of Chance the Rapper but this month I decided to download his mix tape, Acid Rap, and it was just about all I listened to at the beginning of the month. Some of my favorite tracks are Favorite Song and Chain Smoker. I also have enjoyed listening to quite a few throwbacks this month specifically off the spring break playlist I made last year.
Here are some more songs I've been loving:

  • I Will Fall (Nashville cast)
  • Young Girls (Bruno Mars)
  • Knee Socks (Arctic Monkeys)
  • One For the Road (Arctic Monkeys)
  • Holding On to You (Twenty One Pilots)
  • Mrs. Robinson (Simon and Garfunkel)
  • Dissolve Me (Alt-J)
  • Bloodflood (Alt-J)
  • Fall In Love (Phantogram)
  • Jesus Christ (Brand New)
  • Just a Girl (No Doubt)
  • Miami (Will Smith)
  • Lions in Cages (Wolf Gang)
  • Kiss Me (Sixpence None the Richer)
Two Makeup products I have been loving this month are Maybelline's Line Stiletto and Benefit's Sun Beam. Line Stiletto has been my favorite liquid liner for quite some time now and it helps me create the perfect winged line. It's also available at most drug stores so it's super affordable. Sun Beam highlighter from benefit has helped me add a little extra glow to my makeup routine, giving the effect of a nice beach-y tan without actually having gone to the beach.

I have been obsessed, to say the least, with two television shows this month. The first of these is Lost. I am a little late to hop on the Lost bandwagon but better late than never I guess! I have been binge watching Lost on Netflix like it's my job (I may or may not have watched the first half of the second season in one day). I never pegged myself to like this type of sci-fi show but it has a little something for everyone from romance to mystery. I would suggest this show to anyone but be warned that it will most likely take over your life. The second show I have been loving this month is Nashville. This is another show I never would have predicted myself liking. I am not the biggest fan of country music, which for those of you who don't know is what the show revolves around. But I quickly became addicted, not only is the acting amazing but the music is excellent as well.

My food favorite this month has been Brookside's Dark Chocolate Pomegranate. These are just like candy, but are quite a bit more natural and healthy. I recently discovered you can buy snack sized bags at Costco at only 100 calories a pack. If you are a fan of dark chocolate I would definitely recommend checking these out.

Lastly, this month I have been wearing the heck out of my low top Converse. I have a few pairs of these but I often find myself reaching for my light gray ones or my off-white pair. They go with just about every casual outfit, are extremely comfortable, and look better with age!

A New Ball Game

I was having blog withdraws because I haven't posted in almost a week but I am so happy to be back! This week has been so hectic with midterms and spring break coming up but I finally had time to make a post before getting back to studying.

It was super warm today and I have been dying to wear this 'envelope' skort. That's right, SKORT! If you're like me, I thought that we left skorts behind in the third grade but they are making a major comeback. Although I believe it was Zara that first made this asymmetrical style skort I have seen more affordable options popping up everywhere from Nasty Gal to Forever 21. I actually purchased mine from Pac Sun online, but I also have a similar one in black that I got on sale at Aritzia (one of my absolute favorite stores). I have also seen them in a variety of prints and patterns like plaid or floral. But if you haven't picked up on this already I tend to stick to a neutral color scheme.

I wanted to add something to make the look very casual so I decided on a simple tee shirt with rolled sleeves and tied a chambray shirt around my waist to break up the light gray and white. I also wore my favorite pair of worn-in Converse to complete the casual vibe.

Out and About

Sundays tend to be my least favorite day of the week because I find myself laying around my dorm pretending to do things I need to finish for Monday, but in an effort to enjoy the sunshine today I decided to get out of my dorm and run some errands around town.

After 11:30 mass I went to Starbucks, located ever so conveniently down the street, and ordered my favorite drink, a grande chai tea latte with soy milk (if you have never tried this, it will change your life). After sitting down and enjoying my latte I popped into a few of the boutiques uptown and went to CVS to get some magazines.

I paired this structured peplum top with a classically cut jean, but the army green color and slight distressing on the legs takes the look from a softer preppy look to something that is a little more edgy. I tied the look together with some brown booties, giving me a little added height.

The university I go to is characterized by its preppy style, deemed J.Crew U by people who are aware of its reputation. Although I have some classic elements of my style, I would definitely not describe my self as a prepster but today's outfit lets a little prep shine through.

Springing Forward

What better way to get into the spring spirit than florals?

Florals, for spring?....

Groundbreaking I know. But to me, florals are a necessity for any spring wardrobe! Admittedly, it is a little too premature to break out my entire spring wardrobe but I wanted to incorporate a small element of it into today's outfit. This skirt is perfect because the tiny daisy pattern falls on a black background, making it a little more appropriate for the temperature.

When thinking about my personal style, girly is not the first adjective that comes to mind, but florals may as well be the definition of girly, so in order to make florals work with my own style I like to add some edgier pieces like this utility jacket with leather details and my favorite black ankle booties.

I also paired this skirt with a black, cropped sweater. I like to consider cropped sweaters a wonderful contradiction. All the warmth of a sweater (kind of) but without the bulkiness. Cropped sweaters and skirts are a match made in heaven for the colder months because rather than tuck a thick sweater into a skirt, the sweater lays perfectly along the top edge. I picked mine up at Urban Outfitters (I believe it's on sale now) but a cheaper option would be to DIY a sweater you already own by cutting off a portion of the bottom half. They are also perfect for chilly summer nights, just pair it with some high waisted shorts and some bug spray and you're good to go!

Winter Layers

When I looked out my window this morning and saw thousands of white flakes sticking to the ground I was a little bit disappointed, but not the least bit shocked. As I predicted in my last post, March is already proving that it is not going to accept Spring without putting up a fight (the things I would do to live on the west coast at times like this). On the bright side, at least I can squeeze in one more post about my winter style.

For me winter style is all about the layers. Unlike in high school, where my days consisted of shuffling through hallways from class to class, in college I have to brace myself for anything Mother Nature has up her sleeve. I can wake up in the morning and the temperature will be in the negatives and then by lunch it might be a balmy thirty degrees (Fahrenheit).

I love leggings in the winter because they are extremely comfortable and depending on the material, they can be warmer than many of the jeans I have (an added bonus they match almost everything). Over my leggings I like to wear a thinner shirt as well as a cardigan so if I get too warm I can ditch the cardigan and just wear a jacket and tee shirt.

The jacket I'm wearing in this post is one of my favorites because it was a steal in the sale section at one of my favorite stores, Urban Outfitters. The faux shearling adds an extra layer of warmth and the plaid design keeps it casual but can also be dressed up for the nighttime.
